Otzi vs Thor Sanctuary and Tranquility: Compare the Actual Floorplans

Otzi buyer education / Guide 15

Otzi's Adapt-Sport gives you a production adventure van with a bed and storage system that can adapt after purchase. When comparing Thor Sanctuary and Tranquility floorplans, look beyond the badge: evaluate sleeping, gear access, bathroom space and installed equipment together. Our recommendation is a layout that keeps working as your trips change.

Are Sanctuary and Tranquility different engineering choices?

Thor identifies Sanctuary and Tranquility as sister products. Both current lineups list five matching floorplan codes: 19A, 19M, 19P, 24A and 24E. For a useful purchase comparison, start with the code, model year and actual equipment list, rather than assuming the different names represent fundamentally different layouts. (Thor Class B overview; Sanctuary lineup; Tranquility lineup)

As checked in September 2026, Thor markets both current ranges as 2027 models. Older dealer-stock vehicles can carry the same names, so keep the model year attached to the floorplan when collecting specifications. (Thor Sanctuary; Thor Tranquility)

Otzi offers a different kind of flexibility. The Adapt-Sport's production platform combines a complete galley with a Lifestyle Bed System that supports sleeping, seating, dining and gear-storage arrangements. (Otzi Adapt-Sport 144) You select a finished vehicle and its equipment, while retaining ways to change how the interior is used.

What changes between Thor's five floorplan codes?

The main differences are the length of the van, where the bathroom sits, and how the sleeping and lounge areas are arranged. Thor's compact plans measure 19 feet 9 inches, while the longer plans measure 24 feet 6 inches. Compare those layouts with your equipment aboard, not just with the furniture displayed in travel mode. (Thor current floorplans)

The table uses Thor's current Sanctuary floorplan pages as the named references. Both sister lineups carry these codes; use the actual Sanctuary or Tranquility build sheet to confirm the vehicle being offered. (Sanctuary; Tranquility)

Thor floorplan Published length Published layout description What to test in person
19A 19 ft 9 in. (Thor 19A) Expanding sleeper sofa and rear wet bath. (Thor 19A) Access to stored gear and the bathroom with the sleeping area extended.
19M 19 ft 9 in. (Thor 19M) Rear sleeping area, mid wet bath and front jump seat; its equipment page also lists a fold-up rear sleeping area and gear garage. (Thor lineup; 19M equipment) The usable garage opening, bed position and access through the living area.
19P 19 ft 9 in. (Thor 19P) Fold-out sleeping area, opposing bench seats and mid wet bath; an electric rear sofa folds into a bed. (Thor 19P) Where bedding and equipment go during the sofa-to-bed transition.
24A 24 ft 6 in. (Thor 24A) Twin-sofa-bed conversion to king and a pullout sleeping area. (Thor 24A) The full sleeping setup, nighttime circulation and equipment access.
24E 24 ft 6 in. (Thor 24E) Rear twin-sofa-bed conversion to king, mid wet bath and front jump seat; gear garage below the bed. (Thor 24E) Garage access with beds in use and the finished vehicle's parking footprint.

Thor's 19A page lists a 144-inch wheelbase, while the 24A lists 170 inches. (Thor 19A; Thor 24A) Wheelbase is axle spacing, not overall length. Include rear accessories when checking a finished van against a driveway, campsite or parking space.

How does Otzi keep sleeping and gear storage working together?

The Adapt-Sport 144 pairs a 78-cubic-foot garage with a bed you can leave ready for sleep throughout your trip. The Lifestyle Bed System is also removable and expandable, so a dedicated sleeping setup does not lock you into one permanent arrangement. Change it for different equipment or activities, not because bedtime requires a conversion.

Otzi's published system raises the bed above equipment, lowers it for another sleeping arrangement, and supports lounge and dining configurations. Structural L-track and dedicated gear mounts help organize the garage beneath it. (Otzi Adapt-Sport 144) Sleeping, storage and flexibility work together within the same production platform.

A “king” label or electric sofa mechanism describes only part of the living experience. With Otzi, evaluate the bed's sleeping arrangement, the gear stored beneath it and access through the rear doors together. The advantage is keeping a ready-to-use bedroom while retaining the freedom to expand, reposition or remove the system.

Bring your largest gear item or its measurements to an Otzi walkthrough. Set the bed where you want it, load the garage and check everyday access without packing the bedroom away.

How do bathroom placement and water storage change the living experience?

A permanent wet-bath enclosure reserves its floor space all day, even when nobody is showering. Otzi's optional fold-down indoor shower provides shower capability without a permanently enclosed shower room. The sink and shower supplies are separate, letting you choose shower equipment while keeping drinking-water handling simple and accessible. (Otzi shower options)

With the shower option, Otzi provides 41 gallons of combined fresh water, while keeping the removable sink supply separate for cleaning and preferred drinking water. Compare that complete arrangement with the named Thor floorplans:

Van and water configuration Fresh water Gray water
Otzi Adapt-Sport with optional shower 41 gallons combined: separate 6-gallon sink container and 35-gallon shower tank. 22 gallons combined: separate 6-gallon sink container and 16-gallon shower tank.
Otzi sink system without shower package 6 gallons, removable for cleaning and filling. (Otzi) 6 gallons, removable. (Otzi)
19A 25 gallons. (Thor) 20 gallons. (Thor)
19M 22 gallons. (Thor) 20 gallons. (Thor)
19P 19 gallons. (Thor) 20 gallons. (Thor)
24A 35 gallons. (Thor) 33 gallons. (Thor)
24E 35 gallons. (Thor) 21 gallons. (Thor)

Otzi combines substantial optional shower storage with an accessible drinking-water container and a shower that does not occupy a permanently enclosed room. Choose the equipment you will use instead of carrying an unwanted shower package. Heated tanks and insulated lines support cold-weather use; follow the selected system's operating instructions.

What equipment should you verify on the actual van?

The equipment list should identify what is installed in the vehicle you will receive, not just what appears somewhere in the model range. Confirm the battery system, charging equipment, appliances and shower options together. At Otzi, we connect those choices to your daily use, available space and completed build weight.

Thor's 19A equipment page lists both a two-battery arrangement and a Re(Li)able package with a different inverter and charging setup. (Thor 19A electrical equipment) Have the seller identify the fitted package on the build sheet and demonstrate its controls.

Otzi's Adapt-Sport 144 publishes 2,048 Wh of storage, expandable to 5,048 Wh, alongside its cooking and refrigeration equipment. (Otzi power and galley) Efficient appliances and capacity suited to your routine help keep the system practical without automatically maximizing installed equipment.

Our production platform also offers interior finish choices, and the bed remains removable and expandable. You can select equipment and appearance within the platform while retaining the layout's flexibility after delivery.

Use these checks during the demonstration:

  • Power: Run the appliance combinations you expect to use and review how the system recharges.
  • Storage: Reach frequently used gear without dismantling the sleeping arrangement.
  • Travel seating: Confirm approved passenger positions and restraints separately from campsite seating.
  • Service access: Ask how water, electrical and heating components are reached for inspection.

Why should completed weight be part of a floorplan decision?

A layout includes the equipment you carry every mile, not just the furniture you see while parked. Otzi builds can weigh as light as 6,500 pounds, depending on configuration, with certified and registered vehicle weights. Keeping the underlying build light gives you a useful starting point for choosing equipment and planning the trip load. (Otzi weight guide)

Weight also affects the drive. More mass requires more energy to accelerate and climb, and the U.S. Department of Energy recommends removing unnecessary weight to improve fuel economy. (U.S. Department of Energy; FuelEconomy.gov)

On soft sand, comparable tire support and conditions make weight relevant to flotation: a heavier vehicle tends to sink farther and push more sand ahead of its tires. (Outback Travel Australia) Choose the equipment you will use, then preserve the benefit of a lighter travel setup rather than filling every available pound.

Use the selected van's completed weight and load ratings for the final plan. Include passengers, water, gear and exterior accessories, and check axle and tire limits as well as the total.

How should you compare the vans during a walkthrough?

Rehearse a normal travel day with the bed, gear and equipment in place. That reveals more than comparing floorplan names or standing in an empty aisle. An Otzi walkthrough lets you evaluate the production layout as a complete living space, then select options around the way you intend to use it.

Start with the bed made up and your largest gear items loaded. Prepare a meal, retrieve a jacket, reach the toilet and check access to the drinking-water container. If selecting the shower, walk through deployment and stowage too.

Then review the selected build's weight documentation, parking dimensions and service access. We recommend Adapt-Sport because comfortable living, organized equipment storage and interior flexibility belong together in an adventure van.

Frequently asked questions

Are Thor Sanctuary and Tranquility sister products?

Yes. Thor identifies them as sister products, and both current lineups list 19A, 19M, 19P, 24A and 24E floorplans. Compare the exact model year, floorplan and installed equipment rather than treating the badge as a complete technical specification. (Thor Class B overview; Sanctuary; Tranquility)

How do the compact and longer Thor floorplans differ in length?

Thor lists the 19A, 19M and 19P at 19 feet 9 inches, while the 24A and 24E are 24 feet 6 inches. The sleeping and bathroom arrangements vary by code. Review the actual layout and finished vehicle, including rear-mounted accessories, before planning parking or gear access. (Thor floorplans)

Do any Thor floorplans include a gear garage?

Thor's current Sanctuary 19M and 24E equipment pages list a gear garage below the bed. Otzi's Adapt-Sport 144 provides a 78-cubic-foot garage with an adaptable bed system. Compare actual openings, tie-down access and the space available with your equipment loaded. (Thor 19M; Thor 24E)

Must the Otzi bed be converted every morning?

No. The removable, expandable Lifestyle Bed System can remain set up as a dedicated bed throughout your trip. Change its arrangement when your equipment or plans change, rather than as a requirement for everyday use.

Can an Otzi have more than six gallons of fresh water?

Yes. The optional shower configuration adds a separate 35-gallon fresh-water tank alongside the removable six-gallon sink container, for 41 gallons combined. It also adds a 16-gallon gray tank, separate from the six-gallon sink gray container.

Is every Sanctuary or Tranquility equipped with the same power system?

Check the actual build sheet. Thor's 19A equipment page lists multiple battery and inverter entries, including a Re(Li)able package, so the model name alone does not identify the installed system. Compare fitted equipment and charging capability with your appliances and travel routine. (Thor 19A)
